Hiking @ Hatonosu Valley (Hatonosu-keikoku)  & Shiromaru Dam

In July, why do not take a stroll through Hatonosu Valley, which is located upstream of the Tama River. Along the way, we visit the Shiromaru Dam (Renewable Energy PR Center and Shiromaru Dam Fishway).

The beginning of July is before the end of the rainy season, weather forecast says that there will be many cloudy and rainy days. It may be muggy, humid, or hot during the rainy season. Let us make a hiking at the Hatonosu Valley between Kori Station and Okutama Station along the Ome Line in this early July. "I would like you to enjoy the beauty of the valley between the green trees. Hiking trails are well maintained and safe. Also, this course is located in Okutama-City, and the restrooms along the way are clean.”  I wish this hiking refresh you!


In addition, at the Shiromaru Dam in the middle of the valley, you can learn about the effectiveness of hydroelectric power generation and renewable energy, as well as the appeal of the Okutama area. You can also see the structure of the fishway that allows fish to swim up the 30m high dam.

Meeting:      At Kori station along Ome Line, at 9:00AM

Dismissal:    At Okutama Station along Ome Line, Around 2:30PM (May vary depending on the situation.)

Itinerary:     Kori Station (EL. 280m) - 25min. - Suniwa Bridge (EL. 270m) - 25 min. - Matsunoki Ridge Rest Point (EL. 370m) - 25min. – River side near Hatonosu Station (EL. 310m) (lunch) - 50min. - Shiromaru Dam (EL. 270m) (touring renewable energy PR building & fishways) - 1hr 15 min. - Okutama Station (EL. 350m)

The cumulative elevation is about the same as climbing Mt. Takao (round trip from Takao san guchi Station to Mt. Takao).

Remarks:     After hiking, you can take following hot spas.  (Charges are separate.) 

1) Hikawago Asahanoyu, Mikawaya Ryokan 15:00-22:30 (1,000 yen for adults) About a 7-minute walk from Okutama Station

Participation conditions: Those who can walk on flat ground for about 3 hours are OK.

Participation fee:             3000 yen (Transportation expenses, etc. will be borne separately by the individual.)

Clothing:      Shoes suitable for mountain climbing (climbing shoes are preferred, sandals and high heels are not allowed), T-shirt + long sleeves, long pants, hat, (Note: If you are wearing a cotton T-shirt, please bring a change of clothes to protect yourself from the cold.)

What to bring: Lunch (e.g. 3 rice balls), backpacking food, water (1L), water bottle (hot drink), rain gear (upper and lower), winter clothing, change of clothes (if necessary), towel, sunscreen, sunglasses, household medicine (note: these Please put it in your rucksack and bring it with you.)
